Shubh Mahurat Finder — Choose the Right Moment

Every important beginning — a wedding, a house warming, a journey, a business launch — can be timed with care. GreatOhm's Shubh Mahurat Finder suggests the best days and time windows from accurate panchang data.

What Makes a Time Auspicious?

In Vedic tradition, the quality of a moment is read through the panchang — five limbs of time: tithi (lunar day), vara (weekday), nakshatra (constellation), yoga and karana. When these combine favourably, the moment is considered a mahurat.

How the Finder Works

GreatOhm computes a full panchang for the dates you are considering, then filters the suitable windows based on the event type:

  • Marriage: favours fertile nakshatras and maghā, swati and other union-friendly constellations
  • House warming (Griha Pravesh): avoids Rahu Kalam and uses stabilising tithis and nakshatras
  • Travel (Shoola): checks shoola direction and favourable weekday combinations
  • Business and purchases: balances tithi, weekday and planetary hours

Panchang & Daily Mahurat

You can use the app's daily panchang to see today's tithi, nakshatra, elevations and Rahu Kalam directly. When a fixed date is unavoidable (for example, a booked venue), the finder still highlights the best window within that day so you can plan around it.

Personalised vs General Mahurat

A general mahurat is good for most people, but the most precise approach also considers the couple's or family's birth Moon signs. GreatOhm lets you pair the general finder with your kundli-based preferences, and you can confirm the final timing with Pandit Ji in the app.

Frequently Asked Questions

A shubh mahurat is an auspicious day and time window chosen from panchang data — tithi, nakshatra, weekday, yoga and karna — for starting important events.

Muhurat selection weighs the five panchang elements and the positions of the Moon and planets for the date in question. Different events favour different nakshatras and tithis.

Yes. GreatOhm provides muhurat suggestions across the calendar year, including wedding dates for 2026, along with griha pravesh, travel and business timings.

A general muhurat is good for everyone, but a personalised mahurat also considers your birth Moon sign, making the timing ideal for you specifically.

A Shubh Mahurat for marriage must satisfy several conditions together: the Moon and Mars should favour the seventh house of the bride and groom, the Navamsa of both charts must support marriage, and the day and time must avoid Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda, Gulika Kaal and other inauspicious windows. GreatOhm checks all of these against both charts and returns the best dates and time windows rather than a single date.

Rahu Kaal is an inauspicious time period that occurs every day for about 90 minutes, calculated from the Sun’s position on that particular day. Because its length and timing change daily, it has to be looked up for the specific date rather than assumed. GreatOhm lists Rahu Kaal along with Abhijit Muhurat, Yamaganda and Gulika for every date it evaluates.

Abhijit Muhurat is a short window of about 48 minutes in the late afternoon that falls in the middle of the day and is traditionally considered free from major malefic influence. It is often recommended for auspicious beginnings because it is relatively free of Rahu Kaal. However, classical texts still caution that general midday timings are not suitable for all purposes, and some muhurat traditions still recommend consulting a detailed chart.
